Reframe: From Toxic Religion to Freedom with Jesus
As we continue to celebrate the resurrected life given by, Jesus, the Risen Lord, we begin a new sermon series focus on what it means to Reframe from rigid views that bind us in shame, false expectations and fear to a living hope that we receive as we embrace Jesus ‘invitation into a dynamic, life-giving relationship with God, one another, and the rest of creation.
Most people find Jesus fascinating but are turned off or tripped up by beliefs expounded by religious people that communicate a binding, rigid way of living focused on “shoulds”, shame, and exclusion. Sometimes they are just silly viewpoints that can cause a lot of damage and divide! Often these restrictive teachings cause us to feel small, nonessential, inadequate, alienated, and bored.
Jesus said, “if you remain in my word, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Jesus revealed freedom is our new reality when he demonstrated death could not hold him, who is the Author of Life.
Jesus shatters that which binds to bring a healing message of love that unites and builds bridges.
What are false teachings and distortions of truth from which you need to be freed so that you can embrace the joy of a dynamic relationship with the Living God who invites you into the freedom of living FOR that which brings restoration and new life?
This spring and summer, we will spend time unearthing some of this bad theology so we can embrace the good news of Gospel living.
